Measure your own pool with confidence

Pick your pool's shape below. Each guide walks through every measurement your order needs, using the exact diagram from your order form — so the numbers you take here drop straight into your quote.

A 50 ft tape measure— for the overall length and width.
Chalk or tape— to mark points on the deck as you go.
Your order form— to record each letter as you take it.

Pool has steps?

Steps are measured and priced separately from the shape above, but a few things matter enough to call out here before you get started:

  • Note the corner type where the step meets the pool wall — squared off (90°), rounded (radius), or cut at an angle (diagonal).
  • The riser height on your steps should match the depth of your shallow-end wall. If it doesn't, tell us and we'll account for it.
  • Steps need to be measured with the pool drained and the old liner cut out — small errors here won't fit right, so precision matters more on steps than almost anywhere else.
  • Planning to cover the treads with foam padding? Note the foam's thickness — it changes the finished step dimensions.
  • Tell us if there's a setback (a lip or ledge) built into the steps, and how big it is.

Add these details to your order form alongside your shape's lettered measurements, or call us at (943) 227-2942 if you'd like us to talk you through it.

Don't see your shape here? Freeform & custom pools

Not every pool matches one of the 12 shapes above. A freeform or custom-curved pool is measured a different way — the same point-to-point method a surveyor would use — so we can rebuild its exact outline instead of approximating it.

  1. Set two reference points, A and B. Pick two fixed spots about 5 ft back from the pool's edge, on flat ground, roughly two-thirds of the pool's length apart. Neither point should sit on a line that crosses the pool.
  2. Mark points around the pool's edge. Every 2 ft along the coping — closer together around curves, farther apart on straight runs. Always mark the exact spot where a curve starts or ends, and where two straight sections meet at an angle.
  3. Measure each marked point from both A and B. Stretch your tape in a straight line from point A to that mark, record it, then do the same from point B. Never let the tape bend around a corner or obstacle. Round every measurement to the nearest inch.
  4. Take the overall length and width too, the usual way, at the widest and longest points across the shallow and deep ends.

Freeform measuring takes patience and an extra pair of hands — call us at (943) 227-2942 and we'll walk through it with you before you start.

Open the A/B Measuring Tool Speak or type each tape and the pool draws itself.
